I shared my Wimbledon poster design earlier, the 2nd part of the collaboration was an invitation to become an official Championship artist for 2015 and create an original artwork for the Wimbledon Clubhouse for Members and their guests to enjoy all year round. Recently I have completed this piece that turned out the largest paper artwork I've made so far (meaning it took months).
I wanted to create a composition incorporating various Wimbledon motifs with a focus on flowers and plants: my plan was to have all the elements arranged in a free way as would various geometrical forms and lines would form an abstract piece of art. However the composition I've chosen is not really random or truly abstract: the subject areas/main elements are placed in accordance with the Wimbledon grounds map (vaguely, in order to preserve the artistic qualities of the artwork).
The overall size of the unframed artwork is 120x80cm; here are some close ups:
The finished artwork was amazingly well received by the Wimbledon team and Clubhouse members; I was honored to receive an invitation to the Royal Box to see the next championship - looking forward to it!
